7 Must Visit Spots in the City of Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia

If there's one city you should visit when you do a Sabah Tour, it must be Kota Kinabalu. It's a small city you can go around the whole island in just one day. With its friendly locals, scenic coastal spots and cheap items to buy in the market, Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton, widely known as KK, is quite a breathe of fresh air in your usual tour itinerary. Here are some of the many places you must visit when you do a day tour in the city of Kota Kinabalu:

1. Sabah Museum and Heritage Village

This one is for our culture vulture friends out there who would love to know more about the city through the artifacts and history. The Sabah Museum for me is a one stop shop to get the basic information of how the city has evolved to what it is right now.

2. Signal Hill Observatory

Quite an elevated place, so it's perfect spot to watch the buildings and the city of KK from a high place. You may go there via a taxi, or if you are fit enough and have the stamina, you can go hike to reach the place.

3. Atkinson Clock

Another prominent landmark to visit in the city of KK is the Atkinson Clock Tower. This is considered to be the oldest structure in the city. This was built in honor of Francis George Atkinson, the first district official of Jesselton.

4. KK Waterfront

Fancy restaurants, entertainment center, malls, a stunning view of the sunset and a whole lot of people with diverse culture. All of these and more are all present in the waterfront of Kota Kinabalu. It's a great place to visit especially at night because people used to hangout in this area after work.

5. I Love KK

One of the  must visit spots in the KK Waterfront is the I Love KK structure. You can just stroll along the waterfront and you will definitely bump to this famous spot in the area.

6. Jesselton Point

This area is a ferry terminal that would take you to the different islands near Kota Kinabalu. However, because there are a lot of passengers everyday, the area has turned into a tourist spot of its own. Here, you can go shopping, you can dine in to different kinds of restaurants or you can just go there and stroll.

7. Api-api Night Market

Unlike any other markets, Api-Api is different because it becomes alive at night time. You can go shopping all you want because almost everything is available for sale in this market. Shirts, Dresses, jewelries, name  it and you can buy it at Api-Api Night Market. There's also a street food corner where you can taste the best of Kota Kinabalu's street food.

I believe there are other interesting areas to visit at Kota Kinabalu. If you have more time, you can go explore the city on the second day. But if you only have one day to spare for a city tour, this list could be your ultimate guide.
